Established in 2022, the Pantherperch robotics team constructs a remote operated vehicle for competition. Students who are selected for Pantherperch design and construct an underwater robot that is tasked with a challenge that changes each year. Students in the program use power tools to build the frame. They strip wire and solder the remote control to maneuver the robot. The students also water seal the motors. Students in Pantherperch learn lifelong skills that can be used for household and automotive repairs. Plus it's a whole lot of fun.
Pantherperch takes its name from SeaPerch, the national organization that supports the initiative. In 2023, teams competed in 58 regional competitions to advance to the International SeaPerch Competition at the University of Maryland. Additionally, 70 high school teams were competing in there division at the international competition. Thanks to Temple University and the United States Naval Sea Systems Command, thousands of students get hands on, real life, experience.
